NewFilmmakers NY: Summer 2023 Screening Series (August 1 – 31)

From August 1st for one month, the Iranian short films Zaqqum The Tree Of Hell by Hesam Sharifi, Woody Allen Takes Revenge by Peyman Naji, and Cover by Ehsan Majouni will be screened online during the NewFilmmakers NY Film Festival at the Special Iranian Films program.
Three impressive short films will stream through the Groupview platform on the NewFilmmakersplus page in August 2023: Finalist for the best short film and the Winner of the Best Poster at the Rome Prisma Film Award 2023, Zaqqum The Tree Of Hell, with the dark comedy directed by Peyman Naji, Woody Allen Takes Revenge, presented at Haha Art Film Festival 2022 in Pompal, along with Cover, a short film by Ehsan Majouni which will be screened in the next 22 September at the prestigious Cinema Baretti in Turin Italy during the 10° Torino Underground Cinefest.
NewFilmmakers NY is New York’s longest-running year-round Film Festival. Throughout its life, NewFilmmakers has provided a platform for first-time and undiscovered veteran filmmakers. The Festival Series began in 1998, and over the past twenty-one years has screened over 1000 features and 4,000 short films. In 2000 The Festival brought the Havana Film Festival to New York, and in 2002 they started NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. The YoungFilmmakers & AltFest Series screen monthly. Many well-known shorts and features including Blair Witch and Too Much Sleep have had their initial screenings at NewFilmmakers Film Festival.
After many years in theaters, the Festival has taken an exciting new direction with NewFilmmakers called NewFilmmakersPlus which will move the Festival into the digital age and allow them to reach more international audiences.
NewFilmmakers NY has selected Iranian Films to be part of their Summer 2023 Screening Series (August 1 – 31). The complete updated program is listed here.
With Group View on NewFilmmakers Plus, The Festival has added the audience participation that had been missing in their online screenings. In addition, the audience now can create their own viewing parties by casting films from cellphones to a large-screen television.

Zaqqum, The Tree Of Hell – There is a tree that Springs out of the bottom of hell, called Zaqqum. The inhabitants of the inferno have to eat the fruits of Zaqqum, which makes their bodies tear apart and release bodily fluids as a punishment.
